Invisible

The Art of Hiding

In autumn 2023, I began a series on the theme of the art of hiding.
 
Initially I was interested in mimicry and mimesis, then in how ‘invisibility’ could be understood and represented, both in terms of actively ‘hiding oneself’ and passively ‘being hidden’. Camouflage from predators, but also from potential prey. An invisibility that, in a figurative sense, can both offer protection and constrain.

The resulting mixed media works are a blend of analogue and digital, combining traditional pencil drawing, digital processing and final hand colouring in ink, watercolour, gouache and coloured pencils on Arches BFK Rives cotton paper.

This series was later part of my solo show "Tiny Mysteries" in the Gallery Triebwerk8 in Aachen, 04.05.2025 - 25.05.2025
